Yellow Shell

A lovely moth from the Geometridae family, their caterpillars are 'loopers' and appear to be measuring the earth, hence their scientific name. They have fewer prolegs than other caterpillars and make a loop as they walk.

The Yellow Shell moth is so-called because it looks like some sea shells. We have plenty of the plants that it likes including cleavers, bedstraws, chickweed, docks and dandelion.
