Life's tangled skein

Avongorge

Today's picture was taken in the Avon Gorge, a deep valley through which the River Avon flows.

In spite of numerous attempts to bridge the gorge, the winding road that goes up and down the steep sides of the gorge, and the narrow bridge at the bottom are still used daily by many industrial vehicles going from Grangemouth to the Glasgow-Edinburgh M8 corridor. Barely a winter goes by without at least one oil tanker going through the brick walls that mark the edge of the bridge.
