Ambush

Having “downed tools” I decided to have a mooch in the garden and took a few photos.

A hover fly was investigating the sunflower. I waited to see if it would land in the centre of the flower and it did. But looking through the lens I saw a movement at the back of the flower. Long legs were emerging from behind a petal (extra).

The hover fly flew off quickly, and the predator emerged and sat at the centre of the flower (extra). The fly sensibly stayed away.

Who needs the Serengeti or Masai Mara when you’ve got a back garden.

NB I love the way that when the storm has passed, all the blackbirds start singing. Even though it is 10.20 pm
