Herons at Long Branch Farm

Wednesday
This morning, Roger Laura and I went hiking at the second Nature Center site, at Long Branch Farm, over in Goshen. In 1973, Neil McElroy (former Procter & Gamble CEO and former Secretary of Defense) and his wife Camilla gave their beloved Long Branch Farm to Cincinnati Nature Center. The McElroys had a long-standing interest in education and wished to see the property become an environmental education facility. We usually visit Rowe Woods, which is more extensive, but Long Branch Farm has its attractions too. A few days ago we had read that there are three active herons nests there along one of the trails, so we thought we would go and check it out and have a change of scene. As you can see in my blip, the young are pretty big now. It was a beautiful day, and after we had watched the herons through our binoculars for long enough, we continued to have a lovely walk, enjoying more birds, the bird song, wildflowers and butterflies.
