Columbus Park of Roses

Tuesday
Today promised to be another gorgeous day, so Roger and I decided to go out for the day, up to Columbus, the state capitol, and about a 90minute drive NE from Cincinnati. The main reason for our visit on this occasion was to visit the Columbus Garden of Roses. Jen had told us about them years ago, when she was living there, but I’ve never seemed to think of it at the right time. We had a wonderful visit - so many beautiful colors - and I wish I could have bottled the scent and shared it with you! By the time Roger was able to stop me taking any more photographs, it was time for lunch at Northstar cafe, which we enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine. Afterwards we visited the Topiary Gardens at the Old Deaf School Park. It features topiaries trimmed into life-size shapes of men, women, children, animals, and boats and arranged to resemble George Seurat's 1884 painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. It was conceived by Columbus artists James and Elaine Mason, and was built as a garden exhibit for the AmeriFlora exhibition that took place in Columbus in 1992. I’ve put a shot in the extras. From there we went walking along the River Scioto in the downtown area
