A time for everything

An active day!

Wednesday
Another gorgeous day, and after breakfast we drove to the marina further round the lake. From here we went hiking on a little stretch of the Buckeye trail which runs through the park, bordering the lake much of the time. The Buckeye trail is a 1,444-mile hiking trail and long-distance trail that loops around the state of Ohio, partly on roads and part on wooded or rural trail. The trail passes through many of the most scenic locations in the state, such as the Hocking Hills region and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It also goes through many small towns in Ohio, making this trail both an outdoor as well as a social history experience. We did about 5 miles, at a slowish pace, because of Roger’s knee, but this gave me time to notice some of the forest vegetation, including different sorts of ferns. The water lilies were by the marina as we were setting out. Having finished our hike, and had a snack, we went kayaking. We hadn’t bought our own kayaks on this trip, as we were bringing the bikes, and we didn’t want to make things too complicated just for 2-3 days, so we rented them. The make was Sundolphin, which seems to be a common rental make, but we decided we definitely preferred ours! The most common watercraft on the lake are pontoon boats with small outboard motors, which people use for fishing, and just lazing about on the water. By the time we’d finished our almost two hour kayak, (see extra), it was about 3pm, so we decided it was time to head back to the lodge, have a cup of tea, and then take our folding seats down to the waters edge and sit and read for a while, before going for a swim. We enjoyed dinner out on the balcony again, and fortunately had a much better waitress, with a nice cheerful disposition. Later, after a coffee in our room, we went to read in the lounge area, and were treated to a gorgeous sunset.I’ve put a photo in extras, but it’s not great quality as I was using Roger’s phone, which isn’t as good as mine.
