Burr Oak State Park

Tuesday
We have come away for a couple of nights to Burr Oak State Park, near Glouster in southeast Ohio, about a 2 1/2 hour drive from home. I had looked into it for the weekend as an extension to Roger’s birthday celebration, as it’s not too far from the wildlife park we went to on his birthday, but unfortunately the lodge was full for the weekend. However this mid week time was looking promising with the forecast, and they had space, so we booked for tonight and tomorrow night. As you can see, the lodge offers a beautiful view of the lake, from the lounge and common area shown in my thumbnail photo and from the dining room on the lower level.
When we arrived, early afternoon, we put our stuff in the room, then explored the lodge a bit - it was a bit of a “rabbit warren”! Then we went for a moderate hike following a trail near the lakeshore. Where we started the trail was on a little inlet which was partially covered with pink water lilies. Afterwards, we went for a good swim in the lodge pool, then showered ready for dinner. It was at this point that I took the main photograph with the sun shining through the large windows, and the view from the balcony down towards the boat dock. We sat on the balcony for a while reading, before going to dinner, top two photos on the right. Unfortunately, Ohio state parks aren’t known for their great food - not much in the way of healthy options, but you’re in a relatively remote area, so there’s no real options. The service was also very slow, but the view more than made up for it! After dinner, we walked down to the little dock and watched the sun go down behind the trees, and enjoyed the reflections of the clouds in the water. A lovely day!
