Communication

Many of the common birds of my youth have declined massively over the decades.

But a few species have bucked the trend and increased. One of them is the goldfinch. I hear it’s jangly song all the time these days. One of the reasons must be bird feeders in gardens. For goldfinches, adapted to take seeds from thistle heads and other plants, they are an obvious target. This one is communicating by singing it’s song on a neighbour’s TV aerial.

We’ve been having issues with my Dad and Mum over the last two weeks. A fall. The hot water not working. And yesterday their phone being dead (no charge), on Dad’s 94th birthday. All sorted, but at distance we are hugely reliant on just a few people.

So good today to chat to them on WhatsApp, via a carer’s phone. I have no idea when we might see them again, it will not be any time soon. So the phone connection is all important.
