A time for everything

Happy Father’s Day Roger!

There was just Laura with us today to celebrate Fathers Day with us, as Philip had to go to Virginia for a couple of days where he will soon be starting a new job. It was another hot day, so we got out after breakfast for a bike ride, starting from Mathers Mill. There were quite a few people out canoeing/kayaking on the river today. - it was certainly the weather for it. There was a family in the car park inflating two inflatable canoes, and another family had just returned from their canoe trip and were putting the canoe back on the car. The canoe liveries are now open, though offering fewer trips than usual, since transport (either upstream to drop you off, or to pick you up further downstream) is usually by school bus, and I assume they aren’t taking as many people as usual. We had an enjoyable ride past fields of corn and banks of orange lilies in places along the bike trail. We saw several deer, one of them, shown in my collage, happily munching his way through a farmer’s crop! We passed one field on our outward journey, which had been cut for hay, and the bales made for a nice picture, so I thought I would take a picture on the way back. However, by the time we returned, the bales were already stacked together, ready to be loaded onto a trailer, so I had to make do with an empty field!
We picked up some lunch on our way home, from Curritos, a nice healthy option fast food place, with salads, grains and smoothies., which we ate outside on our patio at home. A quiet afternoon, then in the evening I cooked us some scallops with a lemon basil sauce over angel hair pasta, followed by carrot cake for dessert.
