White Butterfly

A quiet day today with two lots of washing done and quickly dried outside, plus a tiny bit of gardening. I sat in the garden reading for a while, but was bothered all the time by hoverflies. I got out a citronella device, but they seemed to be interested in that! I think this is a small white, you can see the shadow of its other wing with a big chunk missing.

The first real tennis tournament after lockdown proved a disaster. There was no social distancing and four players have now got the virus including Dimitrov and the organiser & World No.1 Djokovic (who has some odd views on health and is anti vaccination for example).

Day 100 / Day 92 of Lockdown / Day 23 of Step 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 171 (plus a correction of 109 not recorded) to 42,927. Boris today confirmed and clarified the planned Step 3 changes for 4th July in England. There will be an opening of caravan parks, camp sites, hotels, B&Bs, bars, pubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and concert halls (non-live performances), outdoor playgrounds, outdoor gyms, community centres, and most importantly hairdressers! Pubs & restaurants will have to take the name and contact details of customers so they can be contacted. Weddings with up to 30 people can go ahead. In addition, two households of any size can meet in any socially distanced setting.

I'm really angry with the Press who are reporting that social distancing has been reduced to 1m, which is not accurate and which was made very clear, repeatedly. Social distancing has been modified and 2m is still regarded as preferable. Where not feasible, it can be reduced to 1m + additional mitigation provided such as face coverings, screens, hand washing, additional ventilation, facing away from each other, cleaning and many other of the '39 steps' (I don't know where this is published). It was made very clear that it is for all of us to play our part in isolating the virus and stopping its spread and that if we don't, the virus will spread and restrictions will return.

This was the last of the daily briefings, and ad hoc briefings will happen as and when needed. The slides will still be published.
