Sailing

Two years ago we were setting off on our first proper holiday in over three years. Having dealt with three family deaths and two subsequent house sales between December 2015 and March 2018, we felt we were due a total break away from it all.
Booked a cruise up the Norwegian fjords, and very enjoyable it was too. Given that the UK was in the grip of a heatwave, it was nice to be heading to slightly cooler climes.
Nice relaxing time though probably a bit too much indulgence on the catering front! Luckily I discovered there was a gym on board so made use of it to offset the damage. The picture is of our souvenir print of a tourist attraction near Stavanger. Known as Preikestolen (or pulpit rock in English), it overlooks the fjord and is renowned for its flat top. Didn’t actually take advantage of the excursion there but admired it from afar.
As it happens, it was also our last proper holiday for two years. 2019 was taken up trying to move my elderly mother in with my sister and in 2020 - well we all know about 2020!
Whatever happens in the future, I think it’ll be a long time before I book another cruise, given that most of them were badly affected by the virus earlier this year. I’d need to know the disease has been eliminated, or there was an effective vaccine, before setting foot onboard again.
