Close Every Door

….except this one. The door to the airing cupboard never fitted particularly brilliantly, but when the joiner came to fit the new one it just would not close properly due to it being a bit thicker. It’s not practicable to thin down the door - not without ruining it anyway - so the only answer was to move the door casing forwards by 30mm.
The door now fits perfectly and does not catch on the hot water cylinder. But even when the architrave is reattached, the door will obviously stand proud relative to all the others in the house. Can we live with that? I really don’t know, but the alternative is to bring the whole wall forward, which will have a knock on effect on the coving and ceiling. All of which sounds complicated, time consuming and - inevitably - expensive.
Something to think about over the weekend as I suspect there will be many more decisions to be made once we start on the new fitted wardrobes. We’ve already ascertained that we’ll need to custom build some drawers and shelves to fit inside the wardrobe because the standard “off the shelf” units are too tall! Alway assuming, of course, that we can finally agree on the overall size of the wardrobe and the number of sliding doors to use - 2.4M and three wide doors or 2.6M and four narrow doors. The jury is still out on that one.
Only three days in and I’m already fed up with the mess and the dust. Thankfully, we’re going to the flat for the weekend so can enjoy some order and cleanliness for a couple of days. Maybe by the time we get home on Monday afternoon we’ll have a clearer idea of how we’re going to proceed.
I can’t help but think though that it’s going to get an awful lot worse before it gets better.
