Happy 4th of July

Well, a very quiet one for us. Mostly we're getting ready to go on a bit of a vacation next week - to Calistoga, in Napa Valley. We go every year about this time to celebrate our anniversary. We stay in a beautiful little house at a B&B that's separate from the rest of the inn. It's got a kitchen and a lot of privacy and we'll just go chill for a few days starting Monday. So you'll see some photos - plants probably - from another place for a change!

I'm looking forward to seeing someplace other than my house....I'm used to traveling a lot and this has been an awfully quiet year. Much like tonight! I did make a potato salad and we're grilling hot dogs - found a package in the freezer. So an all American sort of meal - and we never eat these things so it will be fun!

I saw my mom and dad today - all's as well as can be expected. Mom is still quarantined from her time in the hospital, so she can't even leave her respite tiny room in assisted living. We all "visit" through the window. But she should be free to go outside (well, wheel-chaired) outside next Tuesday. The small things that make a difference eh?

Meanwhile, this stunning lily bloomed today. It's another trumpet lily whose name I do not have. Not 'Stargazer' - same coloration and similar fragrance, but 'Stargazer' looks to the sky, and this beauty certainly does not. Look at that drip at the end of the stigma (that gray piece of floral anatomy sticking out of the pollen-laden anthers)...the plant is practically screeching for pollinators :-)

Be well and be safe!
