A Day In The Life

Sweet Baby Jay

As some of you know, part of my morning ritual, apart from making coffee and feeding cats (and not necessarily in that order), is feeding the bluejays before they perch in the lilacs outside the door and loudly squawk for their breakfast. Peanuts in the Shell. That’s what they look for, and of course, I oblige • This young jay seemed to be waiting for an adult to feed him. He spread his wings and shook all over. No one came to his rescue, poor fellow. Forced independence is tough! • I actually enjoy these birds, as I know many do not favor them; their wings the color of the sky. They’re smart, clever and fierce. Did you know they mate for life? • If you have oak trees near or in your yard, you will likely see, or hear, this big, beautiful bird.
