a lifetime burning

Mono Monday: Together

A set of kitchen baking measures for the challenge.

Much of today has been spent trying to deal with the archaeology of Dad's garage.  Being an engineer, Dad has always been drawn to practical physical matters.  He is an electronics and telecommunications engineer by profession, but his family were historically cabinet makers.  Dad grew up prior to and during the Second World War, so the culture of make do and mend is deeply ingrained.  As a result nothing got thrown away if it might possibly be useful in the future.

As Dad's Parkinson's has advanced this interest has gradually moved out of reach for him.  After a while, the garage became used for "storing" i.e. dumping things.  His second wife was been particularly fond of moving things that were not needed in the house into the garage e.g. packaging, broken items etc. The intention being to take them to the local refuse tip / recycling centre at some stage....

After 5 recycling centre trips I have now dealt with the the obvious top layers and can see whole stretches of garage floor... But this still leaves the large number of little off-cuts or wood and metal that have been left over from other projects and the surplus electrical kit (bakelite telephones etc) that an electrical and telecoms engineer accrues in a lifetime of pottering.  There are still cupboards with old jars and tins full of recycled ironmongery etc.

Still, we wouldn't want me getting bored in my retirement would we ;-)
