Black-tailed

I think the weather over the last days has meant generally that insects are hunkering down more. This and a few other black-tailed skimmers although occasionally flying low over the meadow preferred perching on the grass seed heads rather than getting blown around.

She looks in pristine condition so a fairly new arrival I would guess. When they mate it's usually over water and then the eggs are laid by her dipping the tip of her abdomen in the water whilst still in flight.

Always a buzz to find exciting stuff whilst on a walk.
