The Gap

10 years ago, in a village in Derbyshire, England, two very special dogs were born.

8 weeks later, my best friend, Helle, and I drove to England and brought the most amazing puppies home to Denmark with us...

Jazz and Hero should have celebrated their 10th birthday today. But the day has been nothing like we expected.

Jazz was worse this morning. Eating and drinking was more difficult for her and her face was partly paralyzed. Her hind part motor skills were also affected.

Helle and I drove to the animal hospital again and sadly the diagnosis had changed dramatically - a brain tumour. Jazz could not eat and drink for herself and she was deteriorating rapidly.

Jazz joined her brother Hero by the Rainbow Bridge and we are all devastated.

Jazz and Hero always did exactly the same. They were just so similar in personality and temperament that they always made the same decisions and their reactions were exactly the same in most situations. We should not have been surprised that Jazz would follow Hero in this too. But we were - it was a shock. Just like it was a shock, when Hero left us.

Helle and I drove to Faxe Limestone Quarry and took the dogs for a walk. We then sat down in a cafe and had a coke before we cried some more and said goodbye.

Sweet Dreams Beautiful Jazz - please tell your brother that I miss him.
