Maple Leaves.....

Both of these bonsai trees were trimmed a week ago, plus a few days.  They have sent out new leaves now.   The top leaves are slightly pink, some yellow and soft green around the edges as they mature.  That tree is a Desohjo Maple.  It 's leaves are characteristically 5 fingered.
The bottom leaves are on the red Japanese maple, also with 5 finger leaves.   The leaves will mature and turn green, as well.  This tree always has red buds and red leaves which mature to a green.
Maples are a deciduous tree.  They drop all their leaves in the fall, and go dormant.   In the US, we typically pot, root prune and style these tress during January, while dormant.   We can trim them and wire them during the growing season, but we avoid any root work or potting (other than slip potting) because the deciduous trees don't tolerate root manipulation well, at all.  They both have green trunks when, youthful, the top one maturing to a dark green and red maple a brownish/green.   These trees stay outside all winter, tolerating cold and freezing, just fine.  In fact they even thrive on the cold and  long, deep sleep.
