Runner beans 1 - broccoli 0

More or less dry today - I went to my two veg plots for a tidy up and check. Runner beans have a long way to go, but at least they are beginning to show. Will have to start earlier next year. Harvested my onions and made sure that the peas were climbing up the wire properly!

I visited my friend's nursery on the way and found him feeding a young robin which seemed very tame. I took a few pictures, but they weren't totally sharp - he kept coming too close! I put one on as an extra anyway. When I got home I found this shield bug on one of my plastic 'cold frame' boxes. Not sure which variety - will check it out. (And a friend in Ireland told me what it was - the Hawthorn Shield bug, Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale. Common and widespread in mixed woodlands in Britain and Ireland, becoming somewhat scarcer in Scotland.)

Quote of the day:

George Bush - "I do not like broccoli. And I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli."
