Mae’s Sunflower

This is “The last man standing”!! After she’d planted a dozen seeds in the barrel, I covered the barrel with flexible screening in an effort to deter the squirrels from eating the seeds before they started growing . There were 7 of them that came up, & once they were all about 4 inches tall I took the screening off so they’d have room to grow. The day after that all but 2 of the plants had been dug up & scattered around. Of the two left, one was about two feet tall when the wind snapped the stem in half. So I anchored this one & hoped for the best...& now it’s blooming. I’ve been sending daily pictures to Mae, who’s thrilled to have her own “giant flower” & wants to come visit it! :)))
