AOG: Butterfly Boxing

Welcome to Day 3 of the Alternative Olympic Games where we are in the middle of a thrilling bout in the Butterfly Boxing competition. The thistle ring is dominated by the older and larger Silver-washed Fritillary, but will its size and reach win out over the youth and speed of the smaller Brimstone? The larger southpaw goes straight in for a punch with his antennae, but the quick witted underdog ducks just in time, then moves in for a low underwing punch on his opponent's already damaged left wing - surely an illegal move warranting disqualification!

H and I spent a lovely couple of hours at the Country Park this morning in search of butterflies. I've added as Extras individual photos of the Silver-washed Fritillary and the Brimstone, plus a tatty White Admiral and a dragonfly. We saw a male Emperor dragonfly (so large and blue), but I didn't get a photo.

Day 141 / Full Day 133 of Lockdown / Day 31 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 9 to 46,210 with new daily cases up by 938 (still going up). Data leaked to the BBC indicates that deaths in Iran are nearly 42k up to 20/7 and not the 14,405 reported and that cases are nearly double those reported. Govt reports that nearly 0.45m of a rapid LamPORE saliva swab test will be available in care homes and labs from next week provided regulatory approval is given. Nearly 5k Nudgebox DNA machines which analyse nose swabs will be available across hospitals from Sept providing the capability for millions of tests. Both can also detect flu and give results in 90 mins. Tests are now being carried out on sewage to identify coronavirus as part of research.
