Ben Avon

We drove to Tomintoul to go up Big Brae, a deleted Munro Top on Ben Avon. We cycled up the glen and then walked up the hill. The blip is taken at the col between East Meur Gorm Craig and Big Brae, looking west towards Cairngorm. The snow is in Ciste Mhearad, the longest lasting snow on Cairngorm each year. Big Brae is one of Sir Hugh T Munro’s tops and has long been deleted from the tables. Looking at the map you would think it a simple task to find the highest point (942m), but over the years 3 separate places have been thought to be the intended top. We went to them all and climbed the little tor, as the top of that is at about the same height as the ground further west. It’s now been well and truly bagged.

Yesterday’s blip
