Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

A Little Nostalgia

Indulge me.  :-)    I was thinking (again) about photo books as I’m working on a blurb book of Seattle-Covid Spring..just photos.    Then when I started thinking about our virtual trip and where we were going today, I had to get out one of the old ways to record trips. This is a gorgeous handmade paper/leather/ marbled paper book I purchased in Italy as a sketch journal for the 2 months H and I spent,  mostly in Venice with a few side trips, in the year 2000 to celebrate our 60th birthdays.   Only 20 years ago but before digital photos…so I pasted the film photos and all sorts of scrapbook stuff including of course watercolor sketches on that lovely paper (like the extra: the Squero di San Trovaso, the gondola repair shop).

Today we would have traveled to Venice, my favorite city in the world,  by way of the Italian Tirolean village of Bolzano,  a place I’ve never been.  But this picture is a bit south and closer to Venice of Bassano del Grappa.  Our sons and their wives were visiting us in Venice....before any grandchildren were thought about…  Having a drink on the bridge pictured in the postcard (another favorite way I used to do sketches.)  And Nanna with a camera of course.  In some ways, these books are so satisfying but the digital ones are easier. (and I don't need all the scrapbooking,...)   Sigh.  We stay on the Lido for 2 nights, something I’ve never done.   I thought we’d never get there again….so was excited to even get a little smidgeon..I was planning on plunking myself down on the plaza by San Marco, paying exorbitantly for a cappuccino.  (something we never did) and observing life.
Fun to think about.   We took Tatum to Venice when she was 11 and the boys have been there with their parents, so we were excited to introduce Fiona.
We might have to have a bit of Grappa tonight!    More Venice tomorrow!

Other extra:   2 different grappas
