The day started with torrential rain and a thunderstorm, I think it lasted at least two hours or even a little more. We do not often have storms like this one, the thunder rumbled on for a while even after the rain had passed.  It caused local flooding and some landslips.

One of the landslips occurred at the railway line just past Stonehaven. About 20 miles south of Aberdeen. It caused a train to be derailed and three people were killed. Other passengers seem to have been only slightly injured according to news reports. Luckily in a sense that relatively few people are travelling on trains at the moment.

We were also informed that the local Aberdeen shutdown is to continue for another week.

I went out first just as the rain finished. The sun had already come out and the sky had cleared. At the time it felt very hot and humid. The weather remained sunny and warm for the rest of the day.

Photographs of insects are not really my thing. However this butterfly posed for me so nicely I could hardly refuse to take a picture. At the time we were sitting in the corner of the garden shown in the picture yesterday, so it is the same shrub. There quite a lot of butterflies and bees around these flowers, so they seem to be attracting the insects.
