A great wee road

We really enjoyed our 111 mile drive today, some of it on roads new to us. Having detoured to near Blairgowrie last night we decided to carry on north via The Cairnwell to Braemar then along the Dee past Balmoral to take the Cockbridge to Tomintoul road. (We remembered the weather warnings from childhood telling us that road seemed frequently blocked with snow). It was a gorgeous drive. In the past we’d go north by the fastest route as we’d be wanting an early start on a mountain, but not this time - none of that for me till I get my toe fixed.

The bridge was built by General Wade’s men in their bid to rid the Highlands of the pesky Jacobites after the 1715 rebellion.

We headed for Grantown-on-Spey and then on to our small £12 a night site at Geddes Farm near Nairn. It’s in what was a walked garden and there is one other van here. It is 3 miles along a busy road to Cawdor Castle. Sound familiar? (A play which mustn’t be named if you are in it).

The sun was out briefly but though it is overcast, it is dry.

#3 daughter has just got a bad taste in her mouth after discovering the place they went yesterday is owned by Dominic Cummings’ father-in-law. Chillingham Castle, home of the wild white cattle. The children thought the interior of the castle was spooky. No wonder.
