Photos from A Field

By RandallFriesen

12 years has been an education

The fields are beginning to change now, later than usual for here. But at least it’s begun. The guys are getting the equipment tuned up, greased, and ready to go.

The peas will be first to be harvested. Then the canola will be cut to dry for a few weeks. That crop has done poorly with all the rain.

The wheat looks good though it took a bit of a hit from some hail. Not enough to claim insurance, but they are waiting to see how much will be harvested.

Ok, I just read my post. I didn’t know that I knew that much about farming. I am a bit surprised by how much I have soaked it up just being here. I guess 12 years here in this field has shaped me more than I realize.

Pastoring rural people has taught me a few things about life and perseverance. I don’t think I’m optimistic enough to be a farmer. The risk each year would be uncomfortable. I may even hold my breath for the better part of the year.

Anyway, this was the view from the balcony of the church looking out the window. The fields are beginning to change now and the farmers will be glad to see the back of this year.

Now if we can just see a September without snow.
