Ruddy Darter (we think...)

Today was a very slow start for us. The lads had plans and were both up and away before we surfaced. Late morning we decided to head out to Swanholme Lakes to look for a Blip. The weather was a little dull most of the time, though there was the odd splash of sunshine.

It was lovely to see a little family of Great Crested Grebes - mum and two chicks. Mum had caught a fish and was sharing it with the two little ones. They were in the centre of the lake, too far out for clear shots of them but we could hear the hungry squeaks of the chicks. Even though we could not get decent shots it was still a cheering sight.

There were several damselflies and dragonflies around, but only this one settled anywhere.

We rounded off our visit with a sausage butty at Hartsholme Park cafe, which was delicious. The little picnic area seems to have become the haunt of a friendly little grey and black striped cat. We made a fuss of her of course! I hope she has her own humans, though she was enjoying having the run of the park.

After lunch we did a small shop in Morrison's. Zeph was eating over at Jeri's where he is on nephew-wrangling duty so I grabbed a couple of the made to order pizzas for Jae and I so I didn't have to cook! (They were very nice indeed!)

As we left the supermarket the foyer was very crowded - no-one wanted to go out as the heavens had opened and a complete deluge was unleashed. We decided to go for it, not wanting to stand in the crowded place. We were soaked in the few seconds it took to reach the car and put the shopping into it. So it was PJ's on as soon as we arrived home!
