In the Shade

The oak trees seem to be producing lots of acorns this year.

A fine day. Sunshine. Clear. Quite still. It’s not set to last. So we went for a good walk. In the extra - amongst the fields of barley, a field of gold moment. A relief after all those fields of too inquisitive cattle.

And I think I’ve worked out what the plant is growing in our roof guttering. Sedum kamtschaticus- Russian stonecrop (extra). It’s a fair distance from Siberia, no idea how it got here, but it evidently likes it. . It will be removed once the nearby house martins have finished their season. They are very late starters - I found an egg casing on Saturday - so removal will have to be delayed awhile. If the young succeed through rain and gales and fledge, they are going to have to learn fast before heading to Africa.
