Mostly Six Five Oh

Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

Air quality pretty terrible all day but we do seem to be in a pattern where in the early evening it clears enough where it's classified as "moderate" or "unsafe for sensitive groups" which means it's bearable to go out for a little bit.  I did a quick walk - hubby declined to join me - because I just had to go outside.

8/26, 6 a.m. briefing on the CZU fire shows continued progress and control lines are still holding.  80,137 acres burned/burning, 19% contained, 538 buildings destroyed, 1,697 personnel working on this fire, 256,000 gallons of water dropped yesterday (1.6 million gallons total so far of water dropped since the beginning of this fire).  Weather is helping, temperatures are lower and a marine layer is getting in.

What a painstaking process.  It seems in some areas they are starting to be able to get further in and to clear roads of fallen trees so utility companies can begin to assess what needs to be done.

At last night's briefing they gave some sobering statistics for the fires burning in California since August 15th, 1.25 million acres have burned (bigger than the sate of Delaware), 2.7 million gallons of retardant has been dropped.
