Sea Crows

What a pleasant surprise to find these two double-crested cormorants resting on a red buoy marker, facing downstream on the Kennebec River. Although I’m not a boater, or a cormorant, I believe the red marker is to always be on your right when traveling upstream. Perhaps these two have begun to plan their October departure when they’ll be migrating south for the winter. Cormorants travel in flocks and they’ll return to us in April or May • I’m happy to report our female hummer is still with us, and it’s been two days since we’ve not seen the male • Mrs. P and I visited with a friend we have not seen since she and her husband moved out of state a year ago. We met outside, all masked, and maintained a physical distance, most of the time. It seemed the longer we were together the more the distance fluctuated. It was normal to gravitate towards one another while talking, but then we’d catch ourselves and move apart. What an odd experience. It’s much easier to socially distance with strangers.
