Dark Side

An image I took years ago reminded me to look for shadow shapes. Bright sun in a cloudless sky created strong contrast and deep shadows that favoured such an image. I didn't have many options about where to take the shot, so I stuck with side on, which produced shadows that occupied a good proportion of the frame. It seemed better to include the branch that created the shadow; a combination of surreal and reality. It seems a bit cartoony, like the sign of the bat perhaps.

I cropped it to a square in camera to keep the focus on the shadow and decided to stick with that. Bare white branches against the dark bank add further interest; light on dark vs dark on light.
