Lindisfarne - the Holy Island

Yesterday we went, along with 1,000s of others, to Lindisfarne, l was last here about 28 years ago at Easter and we had the whole place to ourselves. A causeway takes cars and walkers across to the island but it is tidal and one has to check the tide times carefully before embarking to this holiest Celtic island in England. First settled by St. Aiden from Iona in Scotland around 650AD, the monks were forced to flee after the Vikings arrived. The small castle was built in the1550s.
