The Lang Scots Mile

Having time to spare before arriving at our home for the week we took a hurl along the seafront at Ayr - and a long seafront it is! The sign indicates the start of The Lang Scots Mile, which until the C19 varied in length but was longer than the standard English mile, being around 1,984 yards (ca 1,814m) compared with 1,760 yards (1,609m). Apparently walking The Mile would burn 110 to 190 calories; this afternoon that might depend on walking into the wind or with the wind behind!

Now ensconced in a comfortable bungalow on a farm near Coylton, having unloaded the car just before the rain began
