Still Going Strong

Good to see the osteospermum still going strong even though I've been a bit remiss on the deadheading. More work in the garden this morning, then I sat out reading the Sunday paper in the glorious warm sunshine this afternoon.

I've just watched Alfie Hewett narrowly lose the US open wheelchair final on a tie-break - an excellent match, he and Gordon Reid did win the doubles. The ladies final was very topsy turvy  yesterday, won over 3 sets won by Naomi Osaka. Just the men's final tonight which I expect Thiem to win.

Day 182 / Full Day 174 of Lockdown / Day 72 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 5 to 41,628 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 3,330 and 884 patients in hospital. Global cases pass 29m (up 1m in 3 days). Cases in Bolton are still sharply increasing now 192 new cases per 100k to w/e 10/9, up from 126.2 cases which was the highest in the UK. The second highest is Blackburn with Darwen where cases have nearly doubled in a week and cases in Liverpool nearly trebled. A professor at Imperial College says people must abide by the restrictions to avoid another national lockdown 'in short order'. The Police shut down a number of illegal parties overnight - what is wrong with people? Sky news reports of leaked documents showing a backlog of 185,000 swabs for testing. PHE has reported an increase in cases in care homes mainly in the workforce, and the Govt has written to care providers saying to 'take the necessary action to prevent and limit outbreaks;.
