The dropped stitch

Ward Hill

A beautiful sunny, warm day, so when work was finished it seemed perfect for a walk. In fact, as soon as we left the village we met thick mist. Not to be put off, we continued with the plan to walk to the top of Ward Hill....perhaps we'd come out above the mist?? We didn't! So it was a short, grey but atmospheric walk.

Water droplets on the spiders' webs meant they caught the light and having spotted one, I realised they were dotted all the way along the verge at the trackside. Many of them were attached, hammock-like, to long stems of grass and other vegetation.

At home I had a quick look for information about the different designs of spiders' webs. Only came up with the interesting fact that most have eight eyes but few have good eyesight.
