Pollen Street; Day 41

The interns left last week, and a new quartet started this morning. Orientation for the first days, meant that the registrars had extra duties today. But one of those was away also. Added to which the two new consultants had their first day today. A big change from South Africa for them.

In the morning there was a Zoom meeting with three people from the Ministry of Health who wanted feedback from two of the three Auckland City DHBs; mainly to do with the relationship with Forensic services. I've long thought that the biggest problem is that forensic services and adult services function like railway lines. They go in the same direction; they appear to join up; but they never meet, functioning as two parallel and separate entities.

Midday the psychiatrists met, and at 1230 the registrar from Te Tumanako, the intensive care part of the unit, presented at the Grand Round. She did very well, having very good slides, and covering the issues clearly and succinctly. The case, and therefore the literature review, was about the interplay between menstrual cycle, mood disorder, and lithium levels. Something I have been interested in and which needs further study, as there have been just four studies reported, according to a review published last year.

Got home in bright and warm sunshine. Went for a brisk walk with the camera, and saw this interesting building in Pollen Street. The cladding (the building's skin) appealed to me. Especially when I found out that the building houses a beauty boutique with paramedical skin specialists.
