Stuff and Nonsense

Brown Hare

Today, in an effort to make the most of the last day of summer, we went to WWT Martin Mere. It was a lovely morning with hardly any wind but got duller and windier as the day progressed. The Pink Footed Geese we’re present in their thousands and make the most magnificent cacophony of sound when they take to the air. It’s a wonderful spectacle (extra).
But today belonged to the brown hare than was running around in the field by one of the hides. I’ve only ever seen a hare through binoculars at a huge distance, and even though this was still quite far away and it’s been cropped a lot, it was wonderful to watch and they have such wonderful eyes. This one was enjoying a good chomp and if you look carefully you can see it licking its lips.

We also saw a few waders - ruff, godwits, Lapwings, snipe and what I think were either knot, Dunlin or some sort of sandpiper. Unfortunately they were too far away for me to be sure even after a massive crop.
