Pheasant feather.

As I went out to top up the feeders and put out things for the squirrels I spotted a couple of feathers lying on the grass.  Knowing the birds which visit the garden they were clearly Pheasant feathers.

Going by the size and pattern they are breast feathers probably from the couple of hens (pheasant hens of course I know a pedant who reads these) which are visiting.  The timing would suggest females as the males tend to start moult when the females are incubating.

As you guessed nothing more exciting caught my eye as the day when on.  Just in case any of our international members are reading and aren't familiar with the English name the scientific name is Phasianus colchicus.
