Today's Special

A New Generation?

We've been hearing the distinctive call of a male Pileated Woodpecker recently, and today I succeeded in getting some photos of him on our high suet feeder.

I'm wondering if he might be the offspring of this Pileated Woodpecker seen in mid-April, which seems like a lifetime ago.

As of September 19, Whatcom County has had 1,355 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 45 deaths since the pandemic began. We continue to be very careful, as we are waiting to receive our mail-in ballots, which should reach us in mid-October. This is the most significant general election I've ever participated in; if Trump somehow manages to win a second term, our lives will never be the same.

(My apologies for being out of touch here... it's a combination of the challenges of adopting Hamish in late July, the constant onslaught of lies from Trump and his minions, being sick for a week in early September, and not being as energetic and efficient as I was this time last year.)
