Northern Flicker

Dear Diary,

Right at my back door, this Northern Flicker digs about for insects.  He is a member of the woodpecker family but spends most of his time on the ground.  I just love the red patch on this male and didn't seem too concerned with me making his portrait.  Cool weather has returned and the leaves are falling rapidly.  John will be here next week to cut the garden back, it's time.
