Furniture, bottles and underpants

For once the forecast was accurate today. We were told that it would be wet in the morning and dry but cloudy in the afternoon. On the basis of that forecast I arranged a litter pick at 1.30pm for Keep Oban Beautiful along the bank behind the recycling bins at the side of Tesco's car park. I arrived at 1.20 and it was still raining gently, so put on full waterproofs. At 1.30 it stopped raining and stayed dry all afternoon!

This bank, as usual, was quite disgusting, with rubbish ranging from an ironing board to a pair of men's underpants, but mostly drink cans and bottles, crisp bags and sweet wrappers. I wonder about the man going home without his underpants! Five of us turned up and we cleared the whole bank in a couple of hours and filled a dozen or so bags. We had to leave the ironing board, the tubular steel table and the garden bench but I'll arrange with the council to take them away sometime. We also found a bum bag with a wallet inside with various cards - it had obviously been there a long time.

Just as we were stacking the bags where I could arrange for the council to uplift them a young man named Kieron drove up and parked his van. When he saw what we were doing he offered to put the bags in his van as he was going to the dump in the morning. Good for you Kieron!

I hope everyone else had a similarly meaningful afternoon!
