Pyracantha Berries

There were heavy showers most of the day, it's about time it stopped. The yellow pyracantha berries are the last to appear in my hedge (I planted red, orange and yellow varieties to make a hedge when I moved in). Good to see the very talented 19 year old Iga Swiatek win the French open this afternoon, only two years after she won the junior Wimbledon title and before she's even won a tour title. She's the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Day 209 / Full Day 201 of Lockdown / Day 27 of Rule of Six (for my record only)
UK deaths up 81 to 42,760 (revised basis), with a 15,166 rise in new daily cases, 3,837 patients in hospital and 442 in ventilator beds (data published late as delays in receiving data for Eng). Globally cases to date passed 37m last night, up 1m in 3 days. New daily cases are going up again in the US (I wonder why!).

Local leaders in the North of England accuse the Govt of putting the area into lockdown on the cheap - personally I think 67% is generous compared to unemployment support, and to set it at the furlough level of 80% for lots of areas for up to 6 months would be crippling for generations to come to pay back. The BMA proposes new measures to the Govt, which sound sensible options. Manchester was extremely busy socialising last night up to the curfew in advance of a tighter lockdown due to rising levels - idiots! People in areas under local restrictions can currently go on holiday to other parts of the UK not under local restrictions - hopefully that will change for areas under the tightest restrictions to be announced on Monday.
