Stuff and Nonsense

Purple Sandpipers #80

Well, that was an unexpectedly sunny day! We were not anticipating such good weather today, but took full advantage of it after the initial rain eased off and the sun came out.
First we took a drive to Budle Bay in search of birds (of course). The tide was way out so the birds were a bit far away, but we enjoyed trying to work out what we were seeing anyway - there were plenty to choose from as it's a great place. Then we drove a couple of miles to Bamburgh and parked up alongside the beach and went for a walk past Harkness Rocks and the white stag painted on the rocks (see extras). The beach was quite busy with dogs and people all enjoying a walk in the sunshine. We stood with our backs towards the old lighthouse and watched the birds on the rocks and the dolphins out to sea for ages. It was fabulous. These are the first purple sandpipers I've ever seen, which is not surprising really as they are not very common, so I was thrilled to find them. we continued past the golf course and towards Budle Bay and then came home for lunch.
As the sun was still shining after lunch we took to the car again and went further down the coast to Beadnell and had a great walk along the beach and back. Who would have thought we'd have weather like this.

I don't think I will have much time to comment on your journals, but will try and catch up if the rain stops us from going out!
