Old Man of Storr

After a solid 36 hours of wind and rain we made the most of what was to be the best day weather wise while we are on Skye.

We headed up the Trotternish peninsula, joining the crowds in the huge car park to walk to the Old Man of Storr. It was stunning with the mist swirling. The mountain rescue were out to get a young woman with a sprained ankle. There has been so much rain so the path is very slippy.

We then headed further up to walk to see An Leth-Allt. There’s a spectacular waterfall and a view down to the beach where local people worked drying diatomite. There were no roads to Portree so Clyde puffers were used to transport it down the coast.

Further on we found a space in the car park for the Quiraing walk. It was a stunning walk - previously our Skye trips had been to climb Munros and Corbetts so we neglected these short walk. There were a few little scrambles which my knees don’t like now, plus a gully crossing with a fair bit of water. But I got a grip when I saw a chap carrying his mountain bike over. The views were amazing and the ice age rock formations spectacular.

I did 18000 steps and almost 8 miles today. My toe is a bit sore, the ball of my foot very sore but I can rest it tomorrow.

To cap it all we got back to the camp site to see we have a wonderful view of the Cuillin. Till now we could see nothing for low cloud!
