Common Enchantments

At the destination

We had a great visit with our friends, Sandy and Bill yesterday and this morning.  They are heading out in their motorhome to their winter vacation in the warmth of Orange Beach, Florida.   We finished the last leg of our journey and are here in the far northwest corner of Colorado.  This year marks the 20th year that we have been coming out here for Jerry to hunt elk and deer.

This collage is a few photos from yesterday but most of them are today.
I was surprised to still see some yellow cottonwood leaves around the creeks and rivers.  There were also a few aspen leaves hanging on.  We were walking a spooked those grouse out to fly...scared me but I had the camera ready!!     The second photo on the bottom row shows how low the water table is here.  This was a beautiful lake when it was full of water...you can see the line where the water used to be.

We are staying at a hunting lodge run by a woman.  She will be doing the cooking for the next weeks and I won't have to do anything.  I know this will not last because I can't stand not to pitch in and help.   There will be six of us here starting tomorrow...maybe eight as two others were supposed to camp out to hunt but the winter weather is coming in with temperatures only in the mid 20sF for the high!   That would be in the minus celcius!

The smoke cloud from yesterdays photo had lessened when we looked out this morning.  We are hoping it has died down. With the forecast for some rain and lots of snow over the weekend I hope that it will be enough to put out all the fires.   There have been hundreds of thousands of acres burned.

Thanks for any comments and stars in the last few days.  Hopefully I will be back to normal here soon as we get in to a new routine.  Thank goodness we have wifi here since our phone cell service is zero!   We are way out in the middle of nowhere Colorado.
