On a beautifully sunny afternoon

From the deck at the Beachhouse we can see right out over Kawau Bay, over Tawharanui peninsula to Te Hauturu-e-Toi (Little Barrier Island) and a day like today it presents as a brooding mass. Later on, when the sun is striking the wester side of the island, the ridges can be seen on the forested mountain sides. Hauturu is a nature reserve and has been since the late 19th century. It is pest free, and endangered birds have been able to grow in numbers on the island.

Later ths afternoon, I had a walk through part of the Highfield Reserve, and was there able to see a Muscovy Duck; I've posted a photo of it as an extra for today. This the 53rd different bird I have seen and got a photo of this year, almost all while taking a daily walk or jog.

We will head back to the city this evening as there are tasks in the apartment which we can do tomorrow, which is a Public Holiday (Labour Day).
