Have Camera Will Travel

Oh what a busy day

Scotland trip day 2.

After a night of torrential rain we didn’t expect to be able to do too much, with an extra hour in bed the sun finally came out, packed lunch made we set off.

Our first stop was at Scott’s view overlooking the valley of the river tweed, reputedly one of the favourite views of Sir Walter Scott. Our next stop was to see Smailholm tower ,located atop a cragg of lady hill, we got out and walked to the top I was brave and didn’t take my coat, how foolish as it was blowing a force nine gale and started to rain.

After a sprint (well a fast walk) back to the car we headed onwards to Kelso stopping to take a picture of hundreds of migrating geese having a rest in a field.

Arriving in Kelso we left the car and took a walk along the banks of the river tweed (Coat on) after a sunny start the rain came on again so back to the car. Time for our in car picnic, we looked for a spot by the river just above the bridge.

After we had eaten we headed back to Melrose stopping on the way to get a shot of Floors castle, despite its name it is a country house and is the home of The Duke of Roxburghe. Our next stop was at the viaduct - one of three bridges spanning the river tweed and the beginning of a another short walk to Trimontium, the sight of an old roman fort.

My main blip was taken last night and shows the impressive ruins of Melrose Abbey.
