Sixpence

...also known as a tanner or in very olden days (before my time) a bender because the thin silver coin could be bent with your bare hands!

Minted in the UK from 1551 to 1970 and worth two and a half pence in today’s money. Until 1816 they were made of silver; 1816-1920 92.5% silver; 1920-1946 50% silver and 1946-1970 cupronickel. This one would only have been in circulation for 10 years but it does pre-date me...just!

The day dawned quite nicely but it’s raining this afternoon, never mind it’s supposed to be dry tomorrow!

Thanks to ApolloFly for hosting Tiny Tuesday this month.
