Tiny Tuesday: Pond Skater

The Pond Skater enjoyed lolling around on the floating grass leaf in the rain, dangling its legs in the water.  At least now it was out of season he was able to get hold of one of the limited number of  pool side sun loungers that were normally hogged by the damselfly nymphs.  He didn't much mind the rain and he rather liked the stripes on this particular grass leaf - it made the lounger look much smarter the the usual brown decayed things he had to make do with.  Yes, all in all he much preferred the end of Autumn to the height of the Summer.

At this time of year the insect photographer has to take what he can find from the very limited supply of bugs available.  As Sunday's Crane Fly demonstrated most of the bugs seem to be on the uglier side of bugdom, and this pond skater is no exception. There are apparently 9 different species of UK pond skater (who knew?).

Still it at least qualifies for the Tiny Tuesday challenge set by Apollofly this week, "to end in R"
