On a pond full of weed

Back to Western Springs, called Te Wai Orea by Maori. That translates as the waters of the eel. It is still an apposit name; there many eels in the lake, and that attracts Karuhiruhi (the pied shag) Once I was fortunate to see (and photograph) a battle between a karuhiruhi and an eel. Other photographers have captured such a battle on their camera. Such fights are presumably common. Nothing like that today.

Instead I got a striking photo of a female putangitangi  (paradise shelduck) on one of the smaller lakes.
